Common Skyjo strategy mistakes
The biggest mistakes are chasing expensive columns, ending too early and confusing a known improvement with a guaranteed win.
Avoid these habits:
- keeping two 11s forever because a third might appear
- revealing the last card without checking opponents
- replacing a known medium card while leaving a visible 12
- taking every low discard even when it breaks a stronger layout
- forgetting that a tied lowest score can still double the ender
Also: the nerdy view
Most mistakes come from mispricing uncertainty. Players overvalue rare all-or-nothing column outcomes, ignore the option value of a blind draw and underestimate the opponent improvements permitted by final turns.
Review decisions by information available at the time, not only by the card that happened to appear.
