How matching columns disappear
Three equal face-up cards in one complete vertical column are removed and score nothing in Classic Skyjo.
All three conditions matter
The cards must be:
- equal in value
- all face up
- in the same vertical column of three
Remove the whole column and place it on the discard pile. The layout now contains fewer cards.
A column shows 7, 7 and one hidden card. You replace the hidden card with a 7. The three visible 7s now form a complete matching column and are removed.
Horizontal rows
A horizontal line of equal cards does not disappear in Classic or Voyage. Skyjo Action uses different row-removal rules, so check the edition badge.
Negative cards
The rule is based on equality, not whether the value is positive. Three matching -1 cards in a complete vertical column can be removed.
When a column disappears
A layout with three face-up 3s in one vertical column. The exchanged card reaches the discard pile first, then the matching column is placed on top and leaves the layout.
Two 3s already showing
One face-down card left in that column.
A third 3 arrives
Exchanged into the bottom of that column.
The column leaves
All three 3s go to the discard pile together. Nine points that will never be counted.
Classic removes vertical columns only.
