Skyjo Scoring Rules Explained
Skyjo's objective is simple: score as few points as possible.
Four rules explain almost everything: remaining cards count at face value, removed columns count as zero, the finishing player can have a positive score doubled, and the game ends after someone reaches 100 cumulative points.
How to calculate a round
Add every card still in your grid.
Negative cards reduce the total. A zero adds nothing. A 12 adds twelve.
Any vertical matching column that has been removed no longer counts.
Suppose your remaining cards are:
-2, 0, 1, 2, 3, 3, 4, 5, 7
Your round score is 23.
The doubling rule
The player who triggers the end must have the single lowest score.
If another player has a lower or equal score, the finisher's positive score is doubled.
- Finisher 12, next-best 15 โ 12 stays 12.
- Finisher 12, another player 9 โ 12 becomes 24.
- Finisher 12, another player 12 โ 12 becomes 24.
The official rules say zero and negative scores are not doubled.
How columns affect scoring
Three identical face-up cards in a vertical column are removed.
Three 7s disappearing removes 21 visible points.
But three -2s would have contributed -6, so losing them could make your final score worse.
When does the game finish?
Keep a running total from round to round.
After a round in which any player reaches 100 points or more, the game ends.
The lowest overall total wins.
Use a score table
| Round | Alex | Bea | Chris |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 18 | 32 | 9 |
| 2 | 22 | 14 | 28 |
| 3 | 7 | 31 | 18 |
| Total | 47 | 77 | 55 |
Alex leads because 47 is the lowest total.
