Can you change the Skyjo rules?
Yes, as a house rule, provided everyone agrees before the game and it is not presented as official.
Answer in context
Common customisations include a different target score, fixed rounds or a shared final-game tie-break. The scorekeeper can support these while labelling them custom.
Your table agrees before dealing that the game ends at 50 rather than 100, because you have half an hour. That is a fine way to play. What it is not is the rule, so it is worth saying out loud before the first card rather than during round three.
Do not mix a house rule into a rule answer without clearly marking the difference.
This answer is for Classic Skyjo unless stated otherwise. Action and Junior may use different mechanics, and Voyage follows the original Classic gameplay.
