Do three matching cards in a horizontal row disappear?
No in Classic and Voyage. Classic removes matching cards only in a complete vertical column.

A horizontal trio may look like three in a row, but the Classic grid is organised as four vertical columns of three.
Three 5s sitting across the middle of your grid stay exactly where they are and score fifteen. Move one turn later so that three 5s line up in a single column instead, and all three come out for nothing.
Skyjo Action has different matching-row rules. Always confirm the edition before settling the question.
This answer is for Classic Skyjo unless stated otherwise. Action and Junior may use different mechanics, and Voyage follows the original Classic gameplay.

A pair, not enough
Two equal cards stay where they are, in every edition.
Action counts rows as well as columns. Both need at least three equal cards.
